Iola-Scandinavia High School’s cross-country team made an impressive mark at the conference meet on Oct. 17, led by the outstanding efforts of the Beck brothers. The boys ‘ varsity team secured key placements with both Ben and Jack Beck delivering top 10 performances.
Ben Beck was the star of the day for Iola-Scandinavia, finishing second in the boys’ varsity race. Clocking in at 16:49.11, he narrowly missed the top spot, which went to Pacelli’s Luke Eiden, who won the race with a blistering 4:59.32 finish.
Not far behind his brother, Jack Beck crossed the finish line in 8th place with a time of 17:33.57. Jack’s top 10 performance at the meet was crucial for the team’s overall success. Adding to the team’s strong showing, Henry Vater placed 11th with a time of 18:02.38 and Evan Linjer, 16th, ran with a time of 18:35.73. Brycen Jorgenson finished 55th with a time of 21:54.49.
In the girls’ varsity race, Iola-Scandinavia’s Revyn Schrank led the way, finishing 15th with a time of 22:41.07. The girls’ varsity race was dominated by Bonduel’s Mariah Wondra, who took first place with an impressive time of 6:07.24.
Other ISHS runner performances were: Cedarlyn Otremba, 17th, 23:10.51; Ari Hahn, 27th, 23:51.74; Paige Timdal, 29th, 23:59.04; Grace Betker, 34th, 24:43.96; Roby Koch, 46th, 27:08.41; and Hannah Olson, 56th, 31:25.05.
Middle School
In the boys’ middle school division, John Mork emerged as the top finisher for Iola-Scandinavia, securing 11th place with a time of 13:16.96. Other runner results included: Parker Poehlman, 23rd, 13:58.89, and Daniel Burns, 32nd, 14:28.94.
Nola Mae Vater led the charge for Iola-Scandinavia’s middle school girls, finishing 20th with a time of 14:48.67. Evelyn Bablitch of Rosholt won the event with a time of 12:25.06.
