Arne V. Larson

February 26, 1921 – November 30, 2020

Arne V. Larson, age 99 of Clintonville, Wisconsin, passed peacefully away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at ThedaCare Medical Center in New London, Wisconsin, from natural causes.

Arne Vernon Larson was born Feb. 26, 1921, to Clarence and Ruth (Hoy) Larson in rural Waupaca, Wisconsin.

He graduated from Scandinavia High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1943.

He married S. Madelyn Lee on June 23, 1945, at Scandinavia Luther Church in Scandinavia, Wisconsin.

His work with General Electric took him to the East Coast and then to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved to Clintonville in 1950, where he worked in research and design at Four Wheel Drive Corporation. A notable work project was the design and development of the Terra Cruiser. Later, he worked as a contracting engineer, retiring in 1982 to care for Madelyn.

Clever with his hands and with a problem-solving mind, Arne could fix or construct almost anything. He enjoyed math, once commenting to his grandsons that “Calculus was great fun!” He loved music and old-time dancing was a joy.

Arne is survived by his three children: John (Susan) Larson, Appleton, Wisconsin, Sigrid (Dakin) Trimble, Rochester, Minnesota, and Eric (Linda) Larson, Clintonville, and Florida. Grandchildren: Paul Trimble, Arthur (Melody) Trimble, Aaron (Amanda) Larson, Derek (Leila) Larson, Melissa (Steven) Wegner, and Greg Larson. Great grandchildren: Andrew Trimble, Cooper Wegner, Isabella Wegner, Hudson Larson. Siblings: Irene (David) LaStofka, Iola, Wisconsin, and Norman (Elva) Larson, Waupaca. Very good friend: Beatrice Artz.

Arne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Madelyn and his brothers Clifford and David.

Arne’s funeral service will be held privately at Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville with Rev. Brian Crocker officiating. Internment will follow at Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery. The service will be recorded and available to view on the Christus Lutheran Church YouTube starting in the afternoon of Saturday Dec. 5.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Christus Lutheran Church, 120 North Main Street, Clintonville, WI  54929. The family would like to thank the staff at Aster Assisted Living of Clintonville for the excellent care they provided for Dad while a resident.
