Allan (Al) Keith Swenson obituary

Allan (Al) Keith Swenson

November 25, 1952 – February 4, 2024

Allan (Al) Keith Swenson was born Nov. 25, 1952, in Iola, Wisconsin, to the late Lucille (Larson) and Merlin Swenson.

He passed away suddenly on Feb. 4, 2024, at his home.

When growing up, special times were had at the family cottage on the lake up north. He graduated from Iola High School in 1972. He made his career as a fisheries technician at the state fish hatchery at Woodruff, Wisconsin.

After retirement, he moved back to Iola, where he spent many hours at “The Farm” hunting, bird watching, hiking with his canine companions, making maple syrup, and enjoying all wildlife. He especially loved sitting around the campfire with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and looking after his apple trees.

Al was a dedicated sports fan. Special times were had with friends fishing on the Fox River down in Princetown and he especially valued time spent with lifelong buddies from school.

He helped the family carry on old-world Christmas traditions taking on the task of cooking lutefisk and even rolling out lefse.

Al is survived by sisters Geri (Scott) Sannes, Donna Guthu, and Lynn Swenson, also by one Aunt Janice (Roger) Clapp, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, Godchildren, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother Lee, brother-in-law Ben Guthu, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

The Memorial Service for Al will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dale Wilson officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 a.m.

Allan will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
