Alice (Lindner) Nielsen obituary

Alice (Lindner) Nielsen

November 6, 1943 – January 28, 2024

On Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, Alice (Lindner) Nielsen of Iola, Wisconsin, went to be at home with Jesus, at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Alice was born Nov. 6, 1943, to John and Loriena (Humke) Lindner of Greenwood, Wisconsin. Alice graduated from Greenwood High School in 1961. She attended Wood County Teachers College and UWSP.

She married Roger Nielsen on May 29, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood.

Alice taught lower elementary grades in the Greenwood school district for 22 years. She retired to become a full-time farmwife working with Roger on their dairy farm. They farmed for a total of 21 years, before leaving the farm to move to Iola, Wisconsin, to be closer to Amy and the grandkids.

Once the grandkids were in school, she started substitute teaching in Iola and did that for about 10 years. She enjoyed teaching and her students loved her.

Alice enjoyed many things, reading, entertaining, knitting, scrapbooking, quilting, and crafts in general. She also loved flowers and was a member of the local garden club. She enjoyed spending time with Roger and his ministry at St. John’s Lutheran Church, as they shared their love of Jesus Christ with many people. Alice loved spending time with her friends, whether it was quilting at church, over coffee, or a meal, she had so many wonderful friends that she truly loved. Her most cherished times were spending time with her family, her biggest smiles were for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Roger. Alice is survived by their only child, Amy (Daniel) Bestul; grandchildren, John Bestul and Jordan Bestul; great-grandchildren: Ellaina, Lukas, and Allison; sisters, Karen Martens and Dianne Lindner; brother-in-law, Wayne (Diane) Nielsen; sister-in-law, Sharon (Edward) Bushman; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (Big Falls), N10685 Petersen Road, Marion, Wisconsin. Visitation starts at 9 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., with lunch to follow on Friday, Feb. 16. She will be interred privately at the King Veterans Cemetery next to Roger.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up at St John’s Lutheran, Attn: Quilting and Lutheran World Relief, N3882 County Road KK, Weyauwega, WI 54983.
