Alberta J. Wavruk obituary

Alberta J. Wavruk

June 29, 1938 – April 5, 2024

In loving memory of Alberta Wavruk, 85, of Iola, Wisconsin, formerly of Waupaca, Wisconsin, a beloved wife, mother, and dedicated nurse, who passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2024, with her family at her side.

She was born on June 29, 1938, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Eva Pecka. Alberta married Raymond Wavruk on Oct. 8, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Alberta was a beacon of love and joy, touching the lives of many with her warmth and compassion.

Alberta was born and raised on a farm in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, where she cultivated her deep appreciation for family and nature. After moving to Chicago in 1951 and graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1956, she pursued her dreams by attending nursing school at St. Anthony from 1956-59. It was during this time that she met her beloved husband, Ray, a Chicago Police officer, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and adventure.

Alberta’s career as a Registered Nurse, particularly her work in pediatrics, was not just a profession but a calling that brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Her motherly nature and dedication left an enduring impact on all those she cared for.

The family was at the center of Alberta’s life. She cherished family vacations, especially those spent in Wisconsin, where she and Ray would fish and enjoy the beauty of the lakes with their growing children, creating wonderful memories that lived on in their hearts.

Alberta possessed a keen curiosity and an inventive spirit. She was always fascinated by roadmaps and had a talent for finding new paths, exploring the world around her and eventually finding Hilton Head Island as a haven to share with Ray and her family. Her creativity and insights were truly remarkable and admired by all who knew her. Alberta’s legacy of love, kindness, and strength will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

She leaves behind her devoted son Ken, and a multitude of family and friends who will dearly miss her. May Alberta rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Though, she is no longer with us, her spirit and the love she shared will continue to guide and comfort us always.

She is survived by her son Ken (Karen) Wavruk, of Waupaca; grandchildren Justin Wavruk, Katelyn (Drew) Wroblewski and their children Emery and Reese, Nicholas Wavruk, P.J. (Nicole) Hayes, Timothy Hayes and Stephanie Hayes; sister Ellna (Milan) Vacho; and son-in-law Philip Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Eva (Titera) Pecka; husband Raymond; daughter Dr. Karen Hayes; sister Yvonne; and brothers Ashley and Arlen.

A Funeral Mass for Alberta will be held on Friday, April 12, at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Waupaca. Father Xavier Santiago will preside. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9-10:45 a.m. Interment will be beside her husband Raymond and daughter Karen at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Waupaca.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
