Iola-Scandinavia will witness a variety of events as sports activities kick off this week, promising a blend of community engagement, athleticism, and creative expression.
August 14
The week begins with a burst of sports energy as the Iola-Scandinavia High School Volleyball team sets off their season with a spirited game at 9 a.m. A little later in the day, the High School and Middle School Cross-Country teams lace up their running shoes for a trail run at Scandinavia Trail, starting at 3:30 p.m. Over at the softball field, the Middle School Football team gears up for their practice session, also at 3:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Iola-Scandinavia High School Cross Country team showcases their running prowess at the Amherst Invitational in Standing Rocks County Park at 4 p.m.
On the civic front, community discussions take place at the Iola Village Board meeting at the Iola Community Center’s Community Room at 6 p.m., and the Harrison Township Board meeting at Northland Lutheran Church at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the Iola-Scandinavia School Board convenes at the elementary school library at 7 p.m.
August 15
The second day of the week starts with a philanthropic mission, Mission Quilt, hosted by Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola from 8-11 a.m. Later in the evening, creativity takes the stage at the Iola Village Library as participants engage in crafting resin pendants and coasters at 5 pm.
August 16
Wednesday brings a touch of serenity with the Prayer Ministry gathering at Scandinavia Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. Nature enthusiasts can rejoice with a kayaking session at Sand Lake hosted by the Center For Living Well at 6 p.m.
August 17
The Scandinavia Municipal Center welcomes all for a Community Coffee session from 8-10:30 a.m. The day continues with events such as Dawn Matzke at the Center For Living Well at 10 a.m., Bridge at the Iola Village Hall at 1 p.m., and Fresh Hope at Scandinavia Lutheran Church at 6 p.m.
For those inclined toward literary arts, Jim Neidert hosts a Book Reading titled “How to Make the Greatest Pizza on Earth” at 6 p.m. in Iola Mills, followed by an Open Mic event at Odin & Freja’s Place at 7 p.m.
August 18
The excitement continues on Friday with the Iola-Scandinavia High School Varsity Football team hitting the field at Shiocton at 7 p.m. Music lovers can hear the tunes of Gapo at Iola Mills and Cray Oxley at Odin & Freja’s Place, both events starting at 7:30 p.m.
August 19
Saturday kicks off with the 13th Annual Woodtick Softball Tournament at Schmidt’s Corners from 8 a.m. Participants can also engage in a creative session crafting Beaded Wire Trees at Scandinavia Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to noon. For those with an appetite, a Brat Fry is set to take place at Iola Sentry Food Store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with proceeds going to the Iola Dog Park.
Athletic rivalries play out on the field with I-S Pee Wee Athletics matches at Thunderbird Field starting at 10 a.m., and art enthusiasts can explore the works of Guy Parker at LittleWolf Gallery. The evening concludes with a musical performance by Olsen and Evenson at Odin & Freja’s Place, starting at 7:30 p.m.
