Hear about Jake Jakubek’s 57 years of barbering
The Iola Historical Society is set to host its Monday, Oct. 30, meetings and program at the Machine Shed on 222 Depot Street.
At 5:30 p.m., the board meeting commences. Members are expected to discuss the last business matters of 2023, including the crucial election of the board and officers for the upcoming year.
The agenda also includes deliberations on the 2024 operating budget, a pivotal point that will shape the society’s activities in the coming year. At 6:30 p.m., the venue will shift gears to the membership meeting, and then at 7 p.m. the spotlight will be on honoring Stanley “Jake” Jakubek’s remarkable 57-year barbering career in Iola. A living repository of memories, Jake will share anecdotes and experiences that span over five decades. He officially retires Oct. 31. The Iola community will bid farewell to a stalwart figure who has left an indelible mark on the town.
Looking ahead, the Iola Historical Society has already set the date for its next board and membership meetings on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, promising to continue its tradition of preserving and celebrating the rich history of Iola.
